Mr Marcus Joseph is the Head Global Workspace Solutions (APAC) at Rubrik Inc.

Mr Marcus is a result-oriented facility management professional with a proven track record of maintaining world-class facilities, campuses and achieving the highest level of CSAT (Customer Satisfaction). Among many others, some of his expertise includes Facilities Operation, Project Management, Sourcing, Logistics, Corporate Real Estate, Asset Management and many more. Mr Marcus has been credited with Excellence Award for Facilities & Administration from FMLA-CRE (Corporate Real Estate – Facilities Management Leadership Award) for two years, i.e. 2014 & 2016. He is also a winner of FM Excellence award from iNFRA for Technology & Innovation for 2017 & Best project in 2019.

Mr Marcus early on dabbled in Sales and Administration department and feels very lucky to have landed a career in the esteemed multi-national company. Mr Marcus is a customer-oriented individual, and customer satisfaction is his top priority. He believes in looking at things from a customer POV rather than facilities and administrator POV.

Combating Uncertainties:
Mr Marcus relies heavily on self-introspection and setting a 3-year goal plan. He moved companies to explore broader roles which contributed to his effective learning.

Work Philosophy:
Mr Marcus thanks his parents, spouse who helped him ingrain practical and useful life and work philosophy.

He points out honest thinking, integrity and transparency to be the key mindsets helping him succeed in his work endeavour. Honesty is the central part of Mr Marcus’s work life, and he strives to be honest to his managers, employees, vendors or anyone he comes across whilst working on projects.

Skills for success:
Some of the skills Mr Marcus emphasises on are communication and influence; wherein again, honesty plays a significant role. Marcus adds analytical and problem-solving skills are convenient as every new project brings along new challenges. Some of the other skills one should hone were decision making, being a team player, paying attention to details etc.

Smooth Working:
To achieve the smooth working of the team, Mr Marcus practices setting clear goals and design a schedule at the start of every project. He also advises building a proper risk-management strategy/team to control any unprecedented events. Tolerance towards uncertainty is the key; however, honesty with your employees and co-workers also plays a vital role and motivates the team to work together in harmony like a well-oiled machine.

Challenges:
According to Mr Marcus, most of the project failures are caused due to the lack of emphasis on the responsibilities of each team member. The way to combat such instances is for each team member to take accountability.

Managing a Team:
Dealing with management, team, colleagues, architects, consultants, contractors, all at once, over a project can be overwhelming. Mr Marcus suggests that an approach based on an appropriate work ethic goes a long way. He still maintains to emphasise communication being the key ingredient towards effective team management & productivity.

Experiences & Choices
Mr Marcus stated working on the NetApp Campus Project was one the best and most defining experiences of his career. According to Mr Marcus in his experience below are three workspaces he enjoyed working in the most:

Vision Post Covid-19:
As we’re moving forward in technology, Mr Marcus states that evolving working structure can lead to increased threats to security. According to him, the pandemic can last up to 2-3 years, where maintaining regulatory and compliance standards will also be a challenge in the coming years.

To put in place, a proper Disaster Management Strategy and providing employees with secure workplaces will help in the smooth sailing of a company. Another cause of concern for Mr Marcus is creating an eco-friendly environment and reducing carbon emissions moving forward. Safety of his employees has always been the top-most priority. Mr Marcus feels it’ll be a hybrid of work from home and work from office in future.

Future Planning:
Rubik Inc. is one of the fastest-growing companies in the last 6-7 years. Mr Marcus compares the future of Rubik Inc. to Google in terms of cloud data management.

Impact of Covid-19:
According to Mr Marcus Covid-19 has barely made an impact on the productivity of the employees of Rubik Inc. However, he feels, employees eventually would want to come back to the office and not get cooped up in their homes for a longer period. Office environment provides a fun yet professional sense and helps to build mentality to work with the team. Office parties, fun activities etc. keep employees engaged and increase productivity and the ability to deliver better results.

Advice to Newcomers:
Mr Marcus firmly insists on having the continuous ability to learn new things. He also says that industries should focus on value creation and developing sustainable solutions for the long term rather than being run to make a profit, solely.
